Lady Rebs split against Lady Tigers

GOOD EYE — McKenzie’s Alayna Parrish keeps her eye on the ball and lets this high pitch go by in the first game of a double-header against the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Lady Tigers.

The McKenzie Lady Rebels softball team opened their District 13A double dip Thursday with Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School by cracking the big bats early and often.

The Lady Tigers had their revenge in the nightcap.

In the opening game, McKenzie scored nine first-inning runs and broke to a 12-0 victory.

The Lady Rebels sent 12 batters to the plate in the opening frame.

Audrie Washburn singled and blasted a grand slam in the first.

In the third, Emily Lunn did a little yard work with her two-run shot as McKenzie scored three more and ended the game early.

Washburn and Lunn each had two hits and four RBI. Chloe Williams singled and doubled with an RBI.

Amberleigh Cooper had two hits and an RBI. Sarah Jackson had a single and an RBI. Shelby Tucker singled and doubled. Anna Comer singled, and Jenna Tucker drove in a run.

Hughey had the lone hit for the Lady Tigers.

Washburn was the winning pitcher and struck out two.

In the nightcap, McKenzie held a 4-3 lead through two innings when Central blew it open with five in the third for an 8-4 triumph.

Tiffani Hughey and Olivia Lowry blasted homeruns for the Lady Tigers.

Lowry also bagged a triple. Aaliyah Davis doubled and drove in three runs. Lowry was 3-3 with three RBI’s.

Davis was the winning pitcher, striking out two and scattering five hits.

Washburn had a another big game. She doubled, homered and drove in three runs for McKenzie.

Lunn singled and secured an RBI. Comer and Tucker each had a hit.

On Wednesday, McKenzie blanked Gleason 10-0 in District 13A play.

Shelby Tucker doubled, crunched two homeruns and drove in three runs to lead the Lady Rebel offense.

Washburn struck out 10, walked two and limited the Lady Bulldogs to just one hit.

Alayna Parrish drove in two runs on two hits. Sarah Jackson doubled and drove in two runs. Washburn homered and drove in a pair of runs. Comer drove in a run on a single. Cooper had a single and a double.

In a battle of Lady Rebels, McKenzie goose-egged Stewart County Monday, 8-0.

Washburn had the hot hand again. She doubled twice and singled, then struck out seven for the victory.

Shelby Tucker had a single, double, and two RBI’s. Williams had a base hit and a pair of RBI’s. Lunn and Cooper each singled and drove in runs. Comer also had a single.

As of press time Monday, McKenzie was 13-6 overall.

The Lady Rebels hosted Dyer County Monday, traveled to Westview Tuesday, and won’t be at home again until Monday, April 24 when they host Obion Central.
